Our
partnerships are sustained through the flow of people,
ideas and financial resources. Working ecumenically
presents many challenges as well as many joys. As
a Group we are always keen to hear of people who would
be interested in knowing more about or participating
in our work.
The
objectives of SCCG are to:
- advance
education, promote good health and promote the benefit
in the interest of social welfare of those living
in China.
- advance
the education of the general public, membership
of SCCG, churches and secular institutions about
the cultural, social, political and religious aspects
of China
- advance,
encourage and support the Christian witness in China.
Current
programmes
>
Link with Shanghai Diocese: The project involved bringing
two young Catholic Sisters to Scotland and then Dublin
for a period of three-and-a-half years. While here
the Sisters studied among other subjects Church History,
the Creeds, Spirituality, Formation and English.
They
have now returned to their Community in Shanghai and
are involved in the Formation of Sisters and Novices
in their Community. The Sisters also provide pastoral
oversight for Sisters working in different Parishes
as well as looking at ways to implement new working
practices for community-based projects.
>
As part of the British and Irish Amity Teachers Group
the SCCG is involved in the Selection and Preparation
of Christian teachers of English who will go to China
to work for two years under the auspices of The Amity
Foundation. These teachers generally work in smaller
Teacher Training Colleges in the east cost Provinces.
> As a member body of the China Forum (CTBI) the
SCCG is lead agency in the Amity Secondment. This
Programme involves the China Forum supporting Ian
Groves who is based in The Amity Foundation Overseas
Co-ordination Office, Hong Kong. Ian forms a link
between the China Forum and Amity while also keeping
the Forum up-to-date with current trends in China.
> SCCG, as part of China Forum and also independently,
facilitates visits to and from China and Scotland.
These visits enable personnel from both countries
to see and experience different approaches to common
issues i.e. theological training, worship, medical
training, teaching.
